Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4H pseudogene 1 (EIF4HP1) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional gene EIF4H, which encodes a protein involved in the initiation step of protein translation. Like most pseudogenes, EIF4HP1 is generally thought to be non-coding, not producing a functional protein, and is not well-characterized in the literature. Pseudogenes can sometimes produce non-coding RNAs that have regulatory roles influencing their parental gene or broader gene expression networks, but there is no specific functional evidence for EIF4HP1. Compared to pseudogenes for elongation factors, which are increasingly studied for their regulatory roles and possible involvement in diseases such as cancer[2], pseudogenes for translation initiation factors, including EIF4H pseudogene 1, have not been explored in detail and are not currently recognized as therapeutic targets.
