Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A-2 (EIF5A2) is a member of the translation factor family involved in promoting translation elongation and termination, particularly facilitating the rescue of ribosomes stalled at polyproline stretches or other challenging peptide motifs[1][5]. It binds between the exit and peptidyl sites of the ribosome, acting as a quality control cofactor and participating in the maintenance of efficient protein synthesis[1][5]. EIF5A2 is implicated in cytoskeletal regulation, cell cycle progression, and mRNA decay. It is notably associated with cancer progression, including ovarian cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, where it can promote invasion and metastasis through induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition[4]. No approved drugs are known to specifically target EIF5A2[1][5].
