Overview

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A pseudogene 4 (EIF5AP4) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic DNA sequence similar to a known protein-coding gene (EIF5A), but is typically nonfunctional due to accumulated mutations. Pseudogenes are generally not translated into proteins and do not encode functional receptors, enzymes, transporters, or other classical therapeutic targets. The EIF5AP4 gene, previously also known as EIF5AL3, is annotated in human genome databases but there is no evidence in the literature that it functions as a conventional therapeutic target, contributes to biological processes, plays a role in disease, interacts with drugs, or serves as a biomarker. Its designation as a pseudogene implies it is not directly involved in translation, signal transduction, cell cycle, or other key cellular functions—those roles belong to its parent gene, EIF5A. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles (e.g., as competing endogenous RNAs or miRNA decoys), there is no published evidence that EIF5AP4 has such functions[6][7].
