Overview

EVA1A antisense RNA (EVA1A-AS) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed in the opposite direction to the EVA1A gene, within its second intron[1]. It suppresses EVA1A gene expression, which itself is an anti-proliferative factor. EVA1A-AS is expressed in certain liver cancer cell lines and its levels are positively correlated with patient survival in hepatocellular carcinoma. Both EVA1A and EVA1A-AS are regulated by the Myc/Max transcription factor complex, frequently dysregulated in cancers. Depletion of EVA1A-AS enhances EVA1A expression, suppresses cell proliferation, and can trigger cell death, indicating its role as a negative regulator of cell death pathways in cancer contexts[1]. There are no known drugs that target EVA1A-AS directly, nor is it considered a "therapeutic target" in the classic sense. EVA1A-AS may have utility as a biomarker for prognosis in HCC.
