Overview

EVX1 antisense RNA 1 (EVX1-AS) is a long non-coding RNA expressed in the antisense direction from the EVX1 gene locus, where it is tightly co-regulated with EVX1 during early embryonic development, particularly in the posterior mesoderm and embryoid bodies. EVX1-AS is derived from alternative promoters and exists in multiple isoforms; the transcript is highly stable and difficult to abrogate experimentally. Functional studies show that eliminating EVX1-AS does not produce phenotypes beyond loss of EVX1 itself, suggesting EVX1-AS acts only in cis to regulate EVX1, without independent function or trans regulatory effects. Like many other antisense lncRNAs, its primary biological role appears to be local regulation of the linked coding gene, in this case EVX1, which is itself a transcription factor involved in anterior-posterior patterning via the BMP4 and WNT signaling pathways[1][3]. There are no known disease links or drug interactions for EVX1-AS, and it is not considered a therapeutic target at present. This entry is specific for EVX1 antisense RNA 1 (EVX1-AS), a developmentally regulated lncRNA serving as a natural antisense transcript, primarily in embryonic patterning. The molecule does not have established roles as a therapeutic target or biomarker, and current scientific evidence suggests its biological function is limited to local transcriptional regulation of EVX1[1].
