Ewing sarcoma associated transcript 1 (EWSAT1) is a long intergenic non-protein coding RNA (lincRNA) gene located on human chromosome 15. It is specifically upregulated in Ewing sarcoma cells as a downstream target of the EWS-FLI1 fusion transcription factor and plays a critical role in gene repression and maintenance of the oncogenic phenotype in Ewing sarcoma. EWSAT1 functions primarily through interaction with chromatin modifiers and RNA-binding proteins such as HNRNPK, leading to repression of a subset of EWS-FLI1-downregulated genes and facilitating tumor cell proliferation and growth in vitro. Its expression is highly specific to Ewing sarcoma relative to other tumors, making it a candidate biomarker for this disease, but it is not considered a classical therapeutic target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. No approved drugs directly target EWSAT1, and its functional or therapeutic modulation remains an area of research interest
