Overview

EWSR1 pseudogene 2 (EWSR1P2) is a non-functional genomic sequence related to the EWSR1 gene. Unlike EWSR1, which encodes a multifunctional RNA binding protein involved in transcriptional regulation, RNA splicing, and is a fusion partner in various cancers[1][4][2][5], EWSR1P2 does not encode a protein, is not expressed, and does not play a direct biological or therapeutic role. There are several EWSR1-related pseudogenes on different chromosomes[4]. Current evidence suggests EWSR1P2 has no role in disease, therapy, or biomarker development. This distinguishes it sharply from EWSR1, which is a frequent fusion gene in soft tissue and bone cancers such as Ewing sarcoma[1][2][4]. Key distinctions: - EWSR1P2 is a pseudogene: does not produce functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target[4]. - EWSR1 is clinically significant: involved in tumorigenesis and studied in cancer[1][2][4].

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes generally lack proven biological functions; EWSR1P2 does not encode a functional protein)
03

Disease associations

Other (no established disease roles; EWSR1P2 itself is not implicated in disease. However, the functional EWSR1 gene is involved in cancer, especially through fusion events[4][2])
