Overview

Excess Liver Fire is not a molecule, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any recognized therapeutic target in biomedical science. Instead, it is a syndrome described within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In TCM theory, "Liver Fire" refers to an excess accumulation of heat and yang energy within the liver meridian system—a metaphorical construct rather than an anatomical organ. Symptoms attributed to Excess Liver Fire include irritability, anger outbursts, headaches, red eyes (sometimes painful), bitter taste in mouth, insomnia, dizziness and various digestive complaints. Causes are thought to be emotional stress—especially anger—unhealthy diet rich in spicy/fried foods and alcohol consumption. Management strategies focus on restoring balance using acupuncture at specific points such as LV2 and GB34; herbal medicines like milk thistle or ginseng; dietary changes; and lifestyle modifications aimed at reducing stress. In summary: Excess Liver Fire does not correspond to any known biological molecule or druggable target, but rather represents an energetic imbalance pattern unique to TCM philosophy. It should not be treated as a canonical therapeutic target for structured biomedical data extraction purposes.
