Overview

Excitatory amino acid receptors are a class of neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system (CNS) that mediate excitatory synaptic transmission. They primarily respond to endogenous amino acids, most notably glutamate and aspartate. These receptors play crucial roles in synaptic plasticity, learning, memory, and neurodevelopment. Overactivation can lead to excitotoxicity and cell death.
