Overview

EXOG pseudogene 1 (EXOGP1) is a processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding exonuclease G (EXOG), a mitochondrial endo/exonuclease involved in nucleic acid metabolism and possibly programmed cell death[1]. EXOGP1 itself does not produce a functional protein product, but, consistent with many other human pseudogenes, could theoretically serve as a regulatory RNA in gene networks or act as a biomarker if expressed aberrantly in specific pathological conditions[2][3]. Pseudogenes like EXOGP1 are not considered therapeutic targets, as they lack enzymatic or receptor activity and do not interact with drugs in conventional ways.
