Exosome-mediated cell signaling refers to the biological process by which exosomes, a type of small extracellular vesicle (typically 30–150 nm in diameter), facilitate communication between cells by transferring bioactive molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids (including mRNA and miRNA), and lipids from a donor cell to a recipient cell[1][2][3][4]. Exosomes are formed within endosomal compartments known as multivesicular bodies and are secreted upon their fusion with the plasma membrane[1][2][3]. These vesicles play crucial roles in various physiological and pathological processes, such as immune modulation, tissue homeostasis, and the progression of diseases including cancer, by modulating recipient cell behavior either through fusion and cargo delivery, or by engaging surface receptors to trigger downstream signaling[1][2][3][4]. However, Exosome-mediated cell signaling is not itself a discrete molecule, protein, or canonical therapeutic target, but rather a multifaceted cellular process or mechanism[1][3][4]. As such, listing drugs, direct mechanisms of action, or biomarkers is not applicable, and it is not recognized as a standard molecular target for drug intervention.
