Overview

The secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs) is a fundamental cellular process in which cells release membrane-bound particles into the extracellular environment. These vesicles are enclosed by a phospholipid bilayer and contain diverse cargo, including proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolites. EV secretion occurs across all domains of life and plays critical roles in intercellular communication, waste removal, immune modulation, and influencing various physiological and pathological processes. While therapeutically targeting EV secretion holds promise, it also presents safety concerns due to the potential disruption of normal homeostatic functions.
