It recognizes profilin-bound monomeric actin (G-actin), promoting its nuclear exclusion and thus regulating the balance of actin between nucleus and cytoplasm[2][3]. Exportin-6 is conserved across higher eukaryotes and is required for the maintenance of nuclear actin homeostasis, with implications for cellular structure and function but no direct disease association currently established[2][3].
