01

Overview

External microbial proteins are proteins produced by microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, algae) that are either secreted or displayed on the cell surface. They play diverse roles in microbial physiology, interaction with hosts, nutrient acquisition, and can serve as targets for immune recognition or antimicrobial agents. Examples include extracellular proteases, porins, adhesins and exotoxins.
