Overview

Extracellular matrix (ECM) components and endogenous growth factors represent a complex, multi-component therapeutic target primarily utilized in regenerative medicine and wound healing. By restoring the structural and signaling integrity of the tissue microenvironment, these therapies facilitate accelerated repair and functional recovery in conditions like chronic ulcers and orthopedic injuries (Fairbairn et al., 2014). This target is considered 'incorrect' in a strict molecular sense because it refers to a broad category of proteins and signaling molecules rather than a single identifiable receptor or enzyme.
