The **extracellular matrix of connective tissue** is a complex network of secreted macromolecules—including **collagens**, **elastin**, **proteoglycans**, and glycoproteins such as **fibronectin** and **laminin**—that provides structural integrity, elasticity, and biochemical signaling to cells within tissues. It is not a single molecule or receptor, but encompasses a dynamic scaffold critical for tissue development, homeostasis, and repair. It acts as a reservoir for growth factors and mediates diverse cell behaviors such as migration, proliferation, and differentiation.
