Extracellular matrix-receptor interaction refers to the ensemble of biochemical and biomechanical connections that occur between extracellular matrix components (such as collagens, fibronectin, laminins, and glycoproteins) and cell surface receptors (including integrins, syndecans, discoidin domain receptors, and others)[1][3][5][6]. These interactions serve as physical anchors and transmit essential regulatory signals influencing cellular adhesion, migration, proliferation, differentiation, immune surveillance, and response to injury. They are central to tissue development, maintenance, and pathology, including cancer progression, fibrosis, and inflammatory diseases[2][4]. Therapeutic modulation of ECM–receptor interactions generally targets specific receptors (such as integrins) or enzymes involved in ECM remodeling, not the interaction process as a unified drug target.
