Extracellular nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (eNAMPT) is the secreted form of the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), which plays a central role in mammalian cell metabolism, particularly in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). eNAMPT has distinct extracellular functions and is implicated in various physiological and pathological processes, including cancer, metabolic disorders, inflammatory diseases, and aging. It functions both as an enzyme generating NMN/NAD+ and as a cytokine-like molecule influencing immune responses and metabolism.
