Exudate

Exudate is a broad term for fluid released from organisms, such as plants or animals, by exuding through pores or wounds—a process called exudation[3]. In medical contexts, exudate typically arises from increased vascular permeability due to inflammation and contains higher protein concentration, cells, and sometimes microbial products, in contrast to transudate, which is lower in protein and usually non-inflammatory[3][9]. Types of exudate include purulent (pus), fibrinous, catarrhal, and serous varieties, each reflecting different pathological processes[3]. In plants, root exudates are mixtures of sugars, amino acids, organic acids, and secondary metabolites released into the rhizosphere, shaping microbial communities, nutrient cycling, and root architecture[1][2][6][4].
