EZR pseudogene 1 (EZRP1)

Target
EZRP1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

EZR pseudogene 1 is a non-coding genomic locus that shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding EZR gene (ezrin), but carries mutations or lacks regulatory elements necessary for gene expression and protein-coding function. Such pseudogenes are classified based on origin (processed, unprocessed, or unitary), and may participate in RNA-level regulation, such as miRNA competition, influencing the expression levels of their parent or related genes. While pseudogenes have emerging roles in gene regulatory networks and may have indirect relevance in diseases such as cancer through their regulatory RNA products, EZRP1 itself does not encode a functional protein nor is it targeted for therapeutic intervention[4][5][7].

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable. No drugs are known to act via or on EZRP1.

03

Biological functions

May act as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), modulating the availability of microRNAs and thus indirectly regulating its parental gene, EZR, and possibly other targets[5][7].Not known to have protein-coding or enzymatic activity.
04

Disease associations

Potential regulation of gene networks in disease, but no direct established disease role for EZRP1 specifically. Other pseudogenes are implicated in *cancer* through regulatory effects, but evidence for EZRP1 is lacking[5][7].
