FAM13B antisense RNA 1 (FAM13B-AS1)

Target
FAM13B-AS1
Molecular classification

Overview

FAM13B antisense RNA 1 (FAM13B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA molecule transcribed from the opposite strand of the FAM13B (family with sequence similarity 13 member B) gene locus. Antisense RNAs are regulatory molecules that have sequences complementary to messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and can influence gene expression post-transcriptionally by base pairing with their corresponding sense RNAs. While several antisense lncRNAs have been linked to diverse biological roles, including modulation of gene transcription and translation, as of now there is limited published literature about the specific biological or pathological functions unique to FAM13B-AS1 itself. General characteristics of antisense RNAs include roles in gene regulation and potential involvement in diseases such as cancer. No drugs are currently known to target FAM13B-AS1 directly, and it is not established as a primary therapeutic target or biomarker.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for any approved or experimental drug; typical mechanisms for antisense RNAs would include modulation of gene expression through RNA-RNA binding or interference with transcription or translation.

Biological functions

Gene expression regulationPost-transcriptional modulationPotential involvement in RNA interference pathways
04

Disease associations

Cancer (functional studies suggest involvement in tumor-related pathways, though not the best-characterized or most-studied antisense lncRNA in cancer to date)Other (potentially due to generic mechanisms of antisense regulation, not specific to FAM13B-AS1)
