FAM193B divergent transcript (FAM193B-DT) is a long non-coding RNA gene located near and divergently transcribed from the FAM193B protein-coding gene locus on human chromosome 5. As a member of the lncRNA class, FAM193B-DT has been suggested (based on divergent lncRNA biology) to act in cis to influence chromatin accessibility around the FAM193B gene and may sequester RNA-binding proteins, thereby modulating local mRNA regulation. Such divergent transcripts are generally not translated into proteins and are more closely associated with regulatory epigenetic roles than with direct disease links or druggability.
