FAM222A antisense RNA 1 (FAM222A-AS1) is a cytoplasm-localized long non-coding RNA found to be overexpressed in various cancers, especially colorectal cancer and lung adenocarcinoma. FAM222A-AS1 acts predominantly as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging miR-let-7f to upregulate MYH9, and thereby promotes proliferation, migration, and invasion of tumor cells. Its expression is regulated under stress conditions and may also play a role in the rapid cellular response to chemical exposures in neural stem cells. High levels of FAM222A-AS1 correlate with poor prognosis in cancer patients, making it a candidate for biomarker development and therapeutic targeting in oncology.
