Overview

Family with sequence similarity 110 member C (FAM110C) is a cytoplasmic protein primarily involved in regulating the organization of the microtubule cytoskeleton and cellular processes related to migration and spreading[1][3][5]. FAM110C binds alpha-tubulin and is located in the cell cortex, associating with centrosomes during interphase and with microtubules during mitosis[2][6]. It is transiently upregulated during the periovulatory period in granulosa cells, where its overexpression leads to G1 cell cycle arrest but does not affect steroidogenic function, suggesting a role in granulosa cell differentiation rather than steroid hormone production[2]. FAM110C also interacts with AKT1, and depletion of the protein impairs integrin-mediated formation of filopodia and cell migration, likely involving PI3K/AKT1 signaling pathways[1][5]. FAM110C is not a therapeutic target, but it is of interest in cell biology and developmental studies for its role in cell cycle regulation and differentiation.
