Overview

Family with sequence similarity 13 member C (FAM13C) is a protein-coding member of the FAM gene family, characterized by nuclear and/or cytoplasmic localization in most tissues, occasionally showing membranous expression. The biological function of FAM13C remains incompletely understood, but domain analyses and recent bioinformatics investigations suggest a role in intracellular signaling and cancer progression, especially in endometrial and prostate malignancies. FAM13C is considered a promising prognostic biomarker, with expression levels correlating to clinical outcomes in endometrial cancer. While the mechanistic basis of its activity is unclear, it is associated with cellular proliferation and may contribute to tumorigenesis. Currently, FAM13C is not the direct target of any approved therapies but holds potential as a future diagnostic and therapeutic target.
