Family with sequence similarity 151 member B (FAM151B) is a protein-coding gene whose protein product is essential for the survival of retinal photoreceptor cells and is implicated in the development of photoreceptor cells[3]. It is predicted to be extracellular and is a paralog of FAM151A. Computational structural predictions suggest similarity to phosphoric diester hydrolases, but this function remains unverified by experimental data[5]. While the protein itself is not directly targeted in therapeutics or biomarker strategies, a lncRNA named FAM151B-DT, transcribed from the same genomic region, has been recently identified as a regulator of autophagy and the degradation of pathological proteins such as tau and α-synuclein in neurodegenerative diseases[1][2]. To date, FAM151B is not recognized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or validated therapeutic target in pharmacology or clinical practice.
