Overview

Family with sequence similarity 157 member C (FAM157C) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that does not encode a protein but is instead involved in regulatory processes at the RNA level[5][3]. FAM157C has been shown to be upregulated in the clonal populations of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and contributes to the proliferation of these clones, likely acting as a regulator of genes involved in cell proliferation and survival[3]. Knockdown of FAM157C in PNH cell models leads to reduced proliferation and increased apoptosis, suggesting a role in clonal expansion[3]. FAM157C is also known by the alias LINC02193[5], and it may have broader involvement in disease processes regulated by lncRNAs, including various cancers, although direct disease associations outside of PNH require further study[2][3]. There is currently no evidence that FAM157C is a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical drug target[5][3]. No drugs or direct inhibitors targeting FAM157C are currently known, and it is not established as a clinical biomarker or therapeutic target.
