Overview
Family with sequence similarity 180 member B (FAM180B) is a protein encoded by the FAM180B gene located on chromosome 11p11.2 in humans. It is a relatively small protein (~20 kDa) predicted to localize to the extracellular region, based on sequence features including a signal peptide and bioinformatic prediction. FAM180B is part of a small gene family with one known paralog (FAM180A). It has four reported isoforms, and is expressed at varying levels across tissues, including high expression in fat, skin, thyroid, and some fetal tissues (lung, stomach, intestine). Molecular structure predictions indicate the presence of a Big-1 (bacterial immunoglobulin-like) domain and several predicted sites for post-translational modification. Currently, there is no direct evidence linking FAM180B to specific molecular functions or human diseases, and it is not established as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting protein.
