Target intelligence / Profile preview
Family with sequence similarity 184 member A (FAM184A) is a human protein coding gene located at cytogenetic band 6q22.31 (Gene ID 79632). The protein contains an N-terminal domain belonging to the FAM184 family, but its functional domain structure is not well characterized. FAM184A predominantly localizes to P-bodies, centriolar satellites, and the microtubule organizing center, suggesting a potential role in RNA processing, post-transcriptional regulation, or microtubule organization. Recent transcriptomic studies have observed altered expression of FAM184A in a variety of cancer settings, and it has been included as part of multi-gene prognostic signatures for endometrial cancer and tracked along malignancy continuums in lung and thyroid cancers, implying relevance as a genetic biomarker for risk stratification or prognosis. However, the precise molecular function and mechanisms of action have not yet been determined, and no drugs are currently approved or in clinical development to target FAM184A. There is no current evidence classifying FAM184A as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, ion channel, transcription factor, or other classical therapeutic target. Its implications in human diseases remain to be elucidated by further research.
None. No drugs act via FAM184A, and no mechanism of action for therapeutic targeting has been described.
