Target intelligence / Profile preview
Family with sequence similarity 218 member A (FAM218A) encodes an RNA designated as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and may also give rise to a protein (Protein FAM218A) whose functional properties are not well characterized[5][3]. It is also known by alternative names such as C4orf39, TRIM61-AS1, and others[5][3]. FAM218A is mapped to human chromosome 4q32.3[7]. There is no evidence to date that FAM218A acts as a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, ion channel, or transporter[5][1][3]. The biological function of FAM218A remains unclear: no conclusive molecular role or involvement in signal transduction, cell cycle regulation, or known signaling pathways has been reported[5][3]. Disease associations are limited but include rare links to cone-rod dystrophy 13 and spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia Kimberley type, based on genetic studies, without clear mechanistic data[5]. There is no published evidence of approved drugs or mechanisms of action targeting FAM218A, nor is it established as a biomarker or known to present specific safety concerns[5][3][7].
