Overview

Family with sequence similarity 225 member B (FAM225B) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and does not code for a protein. It has been identified as a novel oncogenic lncRNA, often upregulated in various cancers such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and glioblastoma. FAM225B acts primarily as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally by sponging specific microRNAs (notably miR-613, miR-1-3p, miR-206, and miR-205-5p), thereby increasing the expression of oncogenic proteins such as cyclin D2 (CCND2). High expression of FAM225B correlates with higher tumor grade, advanced clinical stage, metastasis, and poor overall survival. Functional studies show that reducing FAM225B expression impairs tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion both in vitro and in vivo, supporting its role as a potential prognostic biomarker and its mechanistic involvement in cancer progression[1][2]. There are currently no known drug interactions or direct targeting agents for FAM225B.
