Family with sequence similarity 227 member A (FAM227A)

Target
FAM227A
Molecular classification
Other (uncharacterized protein; no known receptor, enzyme, channel, transporter, or canonical domain/family assigned)
01

Overview

Family with sequence similarity 227 member A is a protein-coding gene mapped to chromosome 22q13.1, predicted to be predominantly nuclear with highest expression in the fallopian tube, testis, and pituitary gland[2][3][11][12]. The protein has several isoforms and predicted nuclear localization sequences, phosphorylation sites, and sequence motifs, but its biological role remains uncharacterized. Deletions in the genomic region may be linked to cancers and developmental disorders, but no drugs or targeting agents exist for this molecule, and it is not a recognized therapeutic target at present[3]. Human and rat orthologs exist, but only in rat have some contaminant/drug interactions been noted, and their relevance to human biology is unclear[9].
