Its predicted amino acid sequence comprises 206 residues, with expression detected in brain and testis in mouse orthologs[4]. FAM228A does not belong to well-recognized molecular classes like receptors, enzymes, or transcription factors, and no biological function has yet been attributed to the protein in published molecular or cellular studies. Current data only link FAM228A to Sotos syndrome via certain genetic studies, but no mechanistic relationship has been determined[3]. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or safety issues associated with FAM228A, and it is not considered a therapeutic target.
