Overview

FAM230G is a type of long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) gene located on human chromosome 22 as part of the FAM230 family, which contains several other lincRNAs formed by duplication events in segmental regions of chromosome 22 known as LCR22s[1][5][3]. FAM230G is not a protein-coding gene, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and currently lacks evidence of a direct role in disease, therapeutic targeting, or as a drug-interacting target. Its expression has been observed mainly in the testes, and like other FAM230 family members, it may play structural or regulatory roles in chromosome organization and RNA metabolism during development, particularly in regions prone to chromosomal rearrangements such as 22q11.2[1]. No drugs are known to target FAM230G, and no mechanisms of action or biomarker relevance have been established. Since this entry refers to a non-coding RNA locus with unclear function and no direct evidence supporting its use as a therapeutic target, it is not considered a typical therapeutic target. Its gene annotation (AC007731.1) is an older genomic identifier for the locus and is commonly used as a synonym.
