Overview

Family with sequence similarity 234 member B (FAM234B) encodes a predicted single-pass membrane protein, predominantly expressed in brain and several other tissues, including cytoplasm, Golgi apparatus, and microtubule organizing centers[1][6][7][8]. In cancer, especially luminal subtype breast tumors, FAM234B is upregulated and correlates with clinical features such as hormone receptor positivity, lymph node metastasis, and tumor stage[2][4]. Gene set enrichment analyses show FAM234B is implicated in membrane transport and cytoskeletal dynamics, and inversely correlated with immune response activity[2]. No approved drugs currently target FAM234B, but its role as a prognostic marker and candidate therapeutic target is under investigation in oncology[2][4]. It is also linked to rare developmental syndromes according to OMIM[7].
