Overview

Family with sequence similarity 241 member A (FAM241A) is an uncharacterized, protein-coding gene producing a protein of 132 amino acids that contains a conserved domain of unknown function (DUF4605, pfam15378)[1][4]. The gene and its paralog FAM241B constitute the FAM241 protein family, which is conserved across multicellular eukaryotes and vertebrates. The precise biological role of FAM241A remains unresolved, as knockouts in mouse models did not yield a visible phenotype and did not modify the phenotype in disease-relevant backgrounds like FIG4 null mice[1]. Expression analyses indicate FAM241A is broadly present in tissues, and experimental evidence from proteomics and imaging studies supports localization to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)[2] and possibly to the Golgi apparatus[3]. There is no recognized function as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target, and there are no known interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or established biomarker roles. Its molecular function, disease role, and clinical relevance are currently uncharacterized[1][2][3][4][5].
