Family with sequence similarity 25 member B, pseudogene (FAM25BP) is classified as a pseudogene, which means it is a nonfunctional segment of DNA that resembles a functional gene but normally does not produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed into noncoding RNAs that may have regulatory functions, but FAM25BP itself is not established as a protein-coding gene, nor is it recognized as a therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or a known interacting partner for any drug. Its genomic classification and naming are consistent with other pseudogenes, and it is generally not included in drug or disease target databases. FAM25BP is clearly denoted as a pseudogene in multiple sources. Pseudogenes are, by definition, not considered therapeutic targets because they don't encode functional proteins. Pseudogenes may have regulatory RNA-based roles (such as acting as microRNA decoys or sources for siRNAs) in some cases, but there is no evidence or established function for FAM25BP having such a role. No disease associations, drug interactions, or biomarker utility are known or reported for FAM25BP; these attributes make it “incorrect” for most lists of drug targets or disease-related genes. Various “FAM25” entries (A, B, C, G, etc.) exist as related pseudogenes but not as protein-coding genes. The only molecular family applicable in standard ontologies is “pseudogene.” This does not correspond to commonly targeted gene/protein families like “Receptor,” “Enzyme,” or “Transcription factor.” FAM25BP is not a bona fide therapeutic target or functional protein, and its inclusion in drug- or disease-target panels would be incorrect.
