Overview

FAM25C is a human protein-coding gene encoding the protein "family with sequence similarity 25 member C." It belongs to a gene family of unknown function, with reported expression in various normal and cancer tissues, but without well-defined molecular activity, cellular pathway, or mechanism. There is evidence from bioinformatics resources and the Human Protein Atlas that FAM25C has variable expression in tissues, including brain and salivary glands, and has been studied as a prognostic marker in certain cancers. Importantly, it has been identified as a promising extracellular salivary RNA biomarker for gingival inflammation, but there is currently no evidence for a direct functional or druggable role as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. Its main molecular classification is "Other," reflecting both the limited understanding of its precise molecular function and its current status as a non-classical drug target. If more specific data or structural/functional assignments become available, or if future research establishes clear roles in cell signaling, disease, or therapeutic targeting, these entries should be updated accordingly.
