Family with sequence similarity 27 pseudogene (FAM27 pseudogene)

Target
FAM27 pseudogene
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)

Overview

This is a non-protein-coding genetic element classified as a pseudogene in the human genome. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events but have lost the capacity to produce functional protein. Although most pseudogenes are considered non-functional genomic relics, evidence suggests some may participate in gene regulation at the RNA level, either by acting as decoys for microRNAs or by generating regulatory RNAs. However, there is no evidence that ENSG00000234085 encodes a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classic drug target, nor is there evidence of clinical drug interactions or therapeutic development based on this pseudogene[1][5].

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional, but some can have regulatory roles on coding genes[5].)
03

Disease associations

Other (The majority of pseudogenes are not directly implicated in disease, but some may be deregulated in cancer and other pathological states[5].)
