Overview

Family with sequence similarity 32 member D, pseudogene (FAM32DP) is a noncoding DNA segment classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences with high similarity to known protein-coding genes but contain disabling mutations that prevent expression of a functional protein. While the majority are functionally inert, accumulating evidence suggests some pseudogenes may play regulatory roles, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or microRNA decoys, influencing the expression of their parent genes under particular biological or pathological conditions. There is no evidence that FAM32DP is a functional regulatory pseudogene, nor is it considered a receptor, enzyme, or other therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no drugs target this pseudogene.

03

Biological functions

Most pseudogenes, including FAM32DP, are nonfunctional.May act as noncoding RNAMay function as a microRNA decoy, RNAi precursor, or affect mRNA stability for related genes, but only some pseudogenes have these rolesNo direct evidence supports any specific biological function for FAM32DP.
04

Disease associations

Some pseudogenes are deregulated in cancer and other diseases, possibly affecting regulation of their parent (functional) gene. There is no evidence that FAM32DP itself is implicated in disease.
