Family with sequence similarity 43 member B (FAM43B) is a protein-coding gene in humans with unknown or poorly characterized molecular function. It is a paralog of FAM43A and believed to encode a structural protein. Bioinformatics and experimental studies indicate low expression of FAM43B in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and suggest that overexpression inhibits cell proliferation and induces cell cycle arrest, possibly via promoter methylation. FAM43B is not broadly recognized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target class, and no interactions with therapeutic agents have been documented. The gene is cataloged in major genomic resources (NCBI, HGNC, GeneCards), but mechanistic, functional, and clinical roles remain unclear, and therapeutic relevance is not established. The limited available literature focuses primarily on cancer biology and epigenetic suppression. No robust molecular classification or disease linkage is currently accepted, and further study is needed to establish biological or clinical significance. Notably, other family members (such as FAM43A) have also been identified, but data are lacking regarding their functional overlap or redundancy.
