Overview

Family with sequence similarity 66 member C (FAM66C) is a long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 12, composed of eight exons. FAM66C does not encode a protein but acts as a regulatory RNA molecule. It modulates cancer biology by functioning as a molecular sponge for oncogenic microRNAs (such as miR-574-3p in pancreatic cancer and miR-339-3p in lung adenocarcinoma), thereby affecting cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metastasis. Reduced FAM66C expression is associated with poor prognosis and advanced stages in several cancers. Evidence also implicates FAM66C in regulating hypoxia-related pathways, immune response, and the tumor microenvironment. Currently, FAM66C is primarily of interest as a biomarker and as a subject of mechanistic cancer biology research rather than as a therapeutic target[1][2][5].
