Overview

Family with sequence similarity 72 member C (FAM72C) is a cytoplasm-localized, protein-coding member of the FAM72 gene family, which comprises four human paralogs. FAM72C is primarily involved in cell cycle regulation, DNA metabolism, and cellular functions such as protein trafficking, membrane dynamics, and signaling. It has tissue-specific functions, notably in neural development. Dysregulation and/or hypomethylation of FAM72C are associated with several cancers (notably clear cell renal cell carcinoma, colorectal, lung, breast, and colon cancers) and serve as poor prognostic markers, linked to increased cell proliferation and tumor progression. Mutations in FAM72C have also been implicated in neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases. Despite its disease associations and potential role as a prognostic biomarker, FAM72C currently has no established, direct interacting drugs or recognized therapeutic targeting modalities
