Family with sequence similarity 87 member A (FAM87A) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), not a protein-coding gene or a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. It does not encode a protein, but instead regulates gene expression through RNA-mediated mechanisms. FAM87A has been implicated in cancer progression, particularly in gastric cancer and glioma, by modulating cell migration, invasion, and tumor microenvironment processes such as immune cell infiltration. It may act as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sequestering microRNAs and influencing downstream gene expression. High FAM87A expression is associated with poor prognosis in some cancers and has been proposed as a potential biomarker for cancer invasion and metastasis. There is currently no evidence that FAM87A is directly targeted by any approved drugs or that it functions as a therapeutic target itself[3][5].
