Overview

Family with sequence similarity 88 member C (FAM88C), also called Lnc-PPRL or pterygium positively-related lncRNA (LOC102724238), is a cytoplasm-enriched long non-coding RNA identified as upregulated in pterygium, a proliferative and degenerative disease of the ocular surface. FAM88C/Lnc-PPRL promotes the proliferation, migration, and invasion of human pterygium epithelial cells by activating the PI3K/PDK1 and downstream Akt/mTOR signaling pathways. These findings suggest a functional role for FAM88C in the pathogenesis of pterygium and indicate its potential as a disease biomarker or future therapeutic target, though it is not presently an established therapeutic target in clinical settings[1][2].
