Family with sequence similarity 90 member A11 (pseudogene) (FAM90A11)

Target
FAM90A11
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; not assigned to classic functional gene families such as receptor, enzyme, etc.)

Overview

FAM90A11, also referred to as Family with sequence similarity 90 member A11 (pseudogene), is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome. Although originally annotated as a protein-coding gene in some resources (due to retained open reading frames), there is no compelling evidence it produces a functional protein in vivo. Instead, like other pseudogenes, FAM90A11 may participate in gene regulatory networks through its RNA transcripts, for instance, by acting as a microRNA decoy or participating in RNA interference, as described for other pseudogenes. There are currently no known molecular functions, specific disease associations, or drug interactions reported for FAM90A11, and it is not considered a valid therapeutic target. FAM90A11P is used synonymously, with "P" denoting its pseudogenic nature. The gene has limited to no functional annotation in major genomic and proteomic databases and is mainly referenced in the context of gene family studies and genomic organization.
