Family with sequence similarity 90 member A14 (FAM90A14)

Target
FAM90A14
Molecular classification
Other, primate-specific gene of uncertain function, protein-coding with strong evidence, often designated as a pseudogene

Overview

Family with sequence similarity 90 member A14 (FAM90A14) is part of the FAM90A gene family, which is primate-specific and appears to have expanded through lineage-specific duplications and rearrangements[1][7]. FAM90A14 is mapped as a protein-coding gene, but also referred to as a pseudogene in some contexts[1]. According to current data, its exact biological function remains unknown, no molecular pathways are ascribed to it, and there are no reports of therapeutic relevance, drug interactions, or biomarker status[1][3][7][6]. An important paralog is FAM90A15[1]. FAM90A14 is not classified within any major molecular target categories such as receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and remains functionally uncharacterized. Its pseudogene annotation implies a lack of—or uncertainty surrounding—protein expression and functional activity, common with several members of the primate-specific FAM90A family[1][3][7]. There is currently no evidence supporting its status as a druggable, disease-related, or validated therapeutic target.
