Overview

Family with sequence similarity 90 member A3 (FAM90A3) is classified as a pseudogene within the primate-specific FAM90A gene family, most notably found in the rearrangement-prone human chromosome 8p23.1 locus. FAM90A genes have arisen through recent gene duplications and rearrangements in primate evolution. While some pseudogenes in the genome are expressed as RNA and a small fraction may even be translated into short peptides or have gene regulatory effects, there is no evidence that FAM90A3 produces a functional protein or acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target. Its nomenclature has sometimes been confused because of overlapping protein-coding gene and pseudogene designations, but modern gene databases clearly identify FAM90A3 as a pseudogene (GeneCards, Ensembl, HGNC). Key points: - FAM90A3 is not considered a valid therapeutic target—there is no evidence for its involvement in druggability, signaling, or known disease roles. - The primary aliases stem from earlier misannotation and duplications, but all refer to the same pseudogene. - There are no interacting drugs, known mechanisms of action, validated biomarkers, or safety challenges because this locus does not encode a functional protein. - If you require structured data for an actual targetable FAM90 family member, you may consider entries like FAM83A or protein-coding FAM90A genes, but not FAM90A3.
