Family with sequence similarity 90 member A4, pseudogene (FAM90A4P), is an annotated human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA fragments similar to functional genes but are generally non-coding, often containing disabling mutations or lacking regulatory elements necessary for normal gene function.[7][1][2] FAM90A4P is assigned to the FAM90 protein family by sequence similarity but does not encode a functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, it may possess residual regulatory roles (such as acting as endogenous RNA decoys or sources of small RNAs), but no specific biological function, disease relevance, or therapeutic interest is currently attributed to FAM90A4P specifically. Pseudogenes, including FAM90A4P, are typically not considered therapeutic targets unless subsequent research documents a specific functional or pathological role, which is presently not the case.[7][2][5][8]
