Overview

Family with sequence similarity 98 member B (FAM98B) is a protein-coding gene whose protein product acts as a component of the tRNA-splicing ligase complex[1][9][12]. It is involved in positive regulation of protein arginine methylation, gene expression, and cell proliferation[2][9][12]. FAM98B can stimulate PRMT1-induced protein arginine dimethylation and interacts with various partners in RNA processing and modification complexes[1][2]. The protein is localized in both the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm and demonstrates RNA binding activity[2][12]. Overexpression or altered regulation of FAM98B has been implicated in certain malignancies, including colorectal cancer, where it appears to promote cell malignancy, and high expression can have prognostic impact in some cancers[1][4]. While FAM98B is functionally important in fundamental cellular processes, it is not a well-characterized direct drug target, nor is it classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor per conventional therapeutic targeting frameworks[1][2][12].
